Local Governing Body
The Local Governing Body (LGB) is a fundamental part of the governance structure of The Mercian Trust and operates under powers delegated by the Trust Board of Trustees. Local Governors (Champions) help ensure that the voices and experiences of pupils, staff, parents, carers and the wider community are heard and considered in the development of the school. Their focus is on school culture, inclusion, belonging, stakeholder engagement, enrichment opportunities, community relationships and the distinctive character and identity of the school.
Local Governors provide support, challenge and local insight to school leaders, helping to champion the school's vision and ensure that every child has access to a positive and enriching educational experience. They do not exercise responsibility for Trust-wide strategy, finance, staffing, educational performance, safeguarding compliance, SEND statutory duties or operational management, as these responsibilities sit with the Trust Board, its committees and executive leaders. Where Local Governors identify significant concerns or risks, these are escalated through the Trust's governance and assurance structures.
